Recombinant human growth differentiation factor 8 (GDF-8), also known as myostatin, is produced in CHO cells in a tag-free format, ensuring proper folding, glycosylation, and high biological activity. GDF-8 is a member of the TGF-β superfamily and functions as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth.
GDF-8 is secreted as a latent precursor that undergoes proteolytic processing to release the active mature dimer. It plays a critical role in muscle development, regeneration, and metabolic regulation. Loss of GDF-8 activity is associated with increased muscle mass, while overexpression contributes to muscle wasting. Recombinant human GDF-8 is widely used in muscle biology, metabolic research, regenerative medicine, and drug discovery targeting sarcopenia and muscular dystrophy.
